How to use an OBD-II code

Read the code with a scanner, look it up here to see the system it points to, then work back to the cause — checking wiring, sensors and related parts before you replace anything. Note the code and your findings on the job so there is a clear record. You can capture the fault and the fix on a job card or a vehicle health check for the customer.

FAQ

Questions people ask

An OBD-II code is a standard fault code your car's diagnostics store when they detect a problem. Generic codes start with P0 and mean the same on any make. You read them with an OBD-II scanner plugged into the port under the dashboard.
